Mattia Binotto was born on November 3, 1969, to Italian parents in Lausanne, Switzerland.
After he completed his high school education, he attended the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. There, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1994.
Later he pursued his master’s in motor vehicle engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. A year after his undergraduate graduation, he joined Scuderia Ferrari in the engine department. He was again part of the same team during the successful early 2000s.
Over a decade later, in 2013, he became head of their engine department. Three years later, he became the chief technical officer (CTO) of Ferrari in July 2016, replacing James Allison.
