The new album from the Smashing Pumpkins is called Zeitgeist.
KEY POINTS:
Smashing Pumpkins have announced the title of their new album - Zeitgeist - and posted a countdown to its July release date on their MySpace profile.
The band's sixth album will be released on July 7, 2007, and is the band's first studio album in more than seven years, since the 2000 release, Machina/The Machines of God.
Smashing Pumpkins disbanded in May 2000 and frontman Billy Corgan went on to record a solo album The Future Embrace.
In April 2006 the band officially announced their reunion and their intention to make a new album.
While Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin have been confirmed as official band members it is unknown whether former members James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky have collaborated on the new record.
Some fans will get an early taste of the band's new sound when they play a series of festival dates in Europe this June.
