Amanda Mackey cause of death

Mackey passed away on August 27 at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn from myelodysplastic syndrome, a kind of blood cancer, in her sleep.

This was revealed by her longtime friend and business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond.

She was also nominated for an Emmy for her work on The Normal Heart.

She entered the entertainment industry as an agent at J. Michael Bloom but was soon attracted away to pursue a career in casting with the illustrious Marion Dougherty, who would later win the Casting Society Hoyt Bowers Award for professional achievement.

Mackey spent some time working in New York before relocating to Los Angeles in 1985, where she would remain for ten years. She founded the Mackey Sandrich Casting Company at that time with her husband, Sandrich Gelfond. In 1996, Mackey relocated back to Manhattan, and Mackey Sandrich Casting became the first independent company to operate on both coasts.
